'Waves of Color' stamps coming soon
It's one of the oldest forms of artistic expression in America. No, not oil-based portraits or clay pottery, but stamps. Appropriately, the U.S. Postal Service has announced a new set of stamps bearing a distinctive contemporary art feel that users can pair with address verification software to create modern direct mail.
The "Waves of Color" collection will be issued December 1 at a release ceremony held at the Florida State Stamp Show. The set will feature four stamps with "rich colors and dense abstract patterns akin to engraved banknotes … [that] leaves the dominant color of each stamp open to interpretation," a USPS blog post read. Connie Totten-Oldham, USPS stamp development manager, will dedicate the stamps at the event.
The stamps will be issued in denominations of $1, $2, $5 and $10, each bearing a different palette of colors highlighting its futuristic pattern. The $1 features shades of aqua and purple; the $2 dollar, green and yellow; the $5, orange and red; and the $10, grey and blue. The stamps also increase in size as the rates increase.
