USPS venerates American history and resilience
The American patriotic spirit is awakened in a four-piece stamp collection recently released by the U.S. Postal Service. Using address validation software assists direct mail campaigns in reaching customers, and companies employing the strategy can honor their country through utilizing the new Forever stamps throughout the year.
A Flag for All Seasons Forever stamps depict the American flag against a forest background in each of the four seasons and was dedicated at the Spellman Museum of Stamp and Postal History in Weston, Massachusetts.
Designed by artist Laura Stutzman using opaque watercolors on an illustration board, the collection of four stamps showcases Old Glory waving in the wind against a changing background. The seasons are shown through the colors of the trees in the background for spring, summer and fall and a lack of leaves in winter. Based off Stutzman's personal photographs of flags, the stamp collection honors the nation's resilience.
For Boston Postmaster James Holland, dedicating the collection in Massachusetts was a symbolic representation of American vitality in the wake of recent events.
"We are honored with the flag in life, and in our darkest hours, we are comforted by it," Holland said in a statement, according to The Boston Globe. "Nowhere do we know this better than right here. As our nation was rocked by the senseless acts put upon Boston on Patriots Day, and again in the criminal trespass upon the campus of MIT that claimed the life of Officer Sean Collier, we turned to our flag to speak for us."
Direct mail marketers can use the stamp collection throughout the year to reflect American history on mailing pieces. The flag represents the unchanging fortitude of the nation's spirit and can help any marketing campaign stand out in customer mailboxes.
