USPS poised for massive holiday shipping season, advises address verification
It's easy to have been dismayed with the state of the U.S. Postal Service in light of its recent fiscal troubles. However, detractors should learn to never count out the USPS after it announced it expects 2012 to be its best holiday season in a long time.
In a press release, the USPS estimated it will deliver 365 million packages this holiday season. The package volume is a 20 percent increase from last year. It would be stellar news for the USPS after main competitors FedEx and UPS projected holiday shipping increases of 13 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
"This is one of the most exciting and busiest times of the year for the Postal Service, whether you're sending a holiday card to Kentucky or military care package to Afghanistan, our employees do what it takes to process and deliver every single one," said Patrick Donahoe, postmaster general and CEO.
The USPS also gave businesses some tips on holiday mailing in order to ensure mail is safely delivered in the seasonal rush. Confirming addresses was the top piece of advice the USPS offered, which businesses can achieve by using postal mailing software.
