USPS continues Letters to/from Santa programs
The holidays are an enchanting time, and a lot of that mystic aura comes from Santa Claus, he of mythic proportions with the red nose and chubby belly. Alas, adulthood comes quickly and at the expense of some childhood memories like that of Santa.
However, those who want to keep the magic alive have a partner in the U.S. Postal Service, which recently announced the kickoff event of its Letters From Santa program. Considering the millions of addresses that the letters from Santa will have to reach, Old Saint Nick could benefit from time-saving address verification software.
The Letters From Santa program allows parents, grandparents and other relatives or family friends to mail children a letter "From Santa," complete with a North Pole postmark. It works by having well-wishers write their letter, sign it "From Santa" and include their addressed letter in another envelope sent to Anchorage, Alaska. From there on, "Santa's helpers in Anchorage will take care of the rest."
The USPS is also celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Letter to Santa program. This time, instead of receiving letters from Santa, children send them to the big guy himself. The kickoff event will be held at the famous James A. Farley Post Office Building in New York City. As part of the program. children send letters to Santa, but they are actually picked up by charities and other customers who then make the Christmas wishes of needy children come true.
