One in six relocated in the past year, address validation essential
The newly designated National Moving Day, or the day after Memorial Day, tends to be one of the busiest days of the year for Americans to move into a new residence. According to a new survey, one in six have recently relocated, and with warmer weather just around the corner, that number may increase. As more consumers migrate to new homes, address validation will continue to be essential for companies to reach customers and drive sales.
Online self-storage resource SpareFoot commissioned Princeton Survey Research Associates International to survey 3,004 Americans about how often they relocate to a new residence in honor of National Moving Day. The study found 16 percent of the American population moved in the past year. While 57 percent only journeyed a short distance, about 25 miles or less from their previous home, their change of address still offers challenges for businesses to reach them.
Chuck Gordon, chief executive officer for SpareFoot, said the recent migration of people into new residences shows the economy is making significant improvements.
"Our survey shows that, buoyed by the continuing economic recovery, more Americans are on the move," Gordon said. "This is a good sign for the housing market and for any company that helps people move."
Address verification software allows organizations that utilize direct mail marketing campaigns to send every mailing piece to its appropriate destination. When consumers move, address validation ensures companies are not dispatching marketing materials to the wrong residence. Doing so can become expensive for companies by creating waste and losing valuable time that could be used to drive sales and customer satisfaction. As more Americans begin to relocate, address verification will be key for businesses to ensure all direct mail subscribers receive marketing materials.
