USPS offers more Sunday deliveries in select locations
It's official, the United States Postal Service is busy.
Across the country, the USPS has been ramping up efforts to respond to the 12 percent increase in deliveries the agency is expecting this year, according to the Des Moines Register. It's anticipated that the country's postal service will deliver as many 15 billion pieces of mail this season alone.
To respond to the wave of new activity, the agency has announced that they will be offering a very special Sunday delivery option in some locations.
Not to be confused with the deal USPS recently struck with Amazon to provide Sunday service in the metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and New York, this new option is only available to a select 19 post offices in the Mississippi District. The decision came after these select ZIP Codes experienced significant increases in package volume:
38671 – Southaven
38654 – Olive Branch
38655 – Oxford
38632 – Hernando
38701 – Greenville
38732 – Cleveland
38834 – Corinth
39047 – Brandon Reservoir Branch
39110 – Madison
39157 – Ridgeland
39180 – Vicksburg
39211 – Jackson LeFleur Station
39206 – Jackson North Station
39208 – Pearl Branch
39402 – Hattiesburg Main Post Office
39503 – Gulfport Larkin Smith Main Post Office
39532 – Biloxi Northbay/D'Iberville
39564 – Ocean Springs
39759 – Starkville
The special Sunday delivery option will be available to shoppers in these ZIP Codes on Dec. 22, the Sunday prior to Christmas Day.
The USPS' decision to extend services into the previously untouchable "day off" comes as a direct reflection of demand. More people than ever are calling on the agency to guide their purchases and presents, and direct mail marketers would be remiss if they too didn't respond to consumers' need for more shopping this season. Investing in address correction systems, organizations can ensure the integrity of all their addresses upon entry, helping packages get where they need to be, when they need to be there.
