USPS logs its busiest day of the year
This past week has been one of the busiest the United States Postal Service has had since its inception.
On Monday, the USPS, as expected, saw its most active day of both the season and the year. The agency processed an overwhelming 660 million pieces of mail, according to Portland-based KGW. Postal officials told the local news station that volume was up 12 percent from last year. More surprisingly, third-party mail carriers, like the United Parcel Service, reported that early estimates suggest Tuesday may actually turn out to be not just busier than Monday, but their busiest day of the year.
The USPS expects to ultimately deliver more than 15 billion pieces of mail this holiday season. The increase in volume stands as a testament to the agency's growing sustainability.
Ford's recent consumer trend report for the upcoming year pointed out that shoppers were beginning to long for more traditional relationships with retailers. This is likely to show an increase in postal activity as advertisers answer calls by introducing more direct mail campaigns into their overall marketing strategies. Organizations hoping to keep pace and preemptively respond to shifting customer attitudes can invest in mailing software to help streamline postal operations. Businesses can use the software to automate a number of steps in the mailing process, including presorting parcels.
