USPS adds green roof at a facility in New York
While the U.S. Postal Service wants businesses and consumers to continue to send and receive mail, it is also doing its part to cut down on pollution and remain environmentally conscious.
One of the most recent initiatives from the USPS is the installation of a green roof on top of the Colvin-Elmwood Post Office in Onondaga County, New York. The roof will be installed at no cost to the post office, and is part of the Postal Service's efforts to make its spaces as sustainable as possible.
“The Postal Service continues to lead the way when it comes to making a positive impact on the environment,” said Thomas Day, chief sustainability officer. “We’re pleased to be collaborating with the good people of Onondaga County on our second green roof, which will help the Postal Service conserve water and energy in the Syracuse metropolitan area.”
The USPS has a number of other efforts currently going on throughout the country to contribute to improving the environment. Businesses that, like the USPS, are concerned about the environment should consider address verification software. These programs can cut down on waste by ensuring mail pieces are sent to existing addresses.
