Illegal addresses hinder Canada Post deliveries
Recent revisions to delivery routes for addresses categorized as illegal by Canadian officials emphasize the need for address validation software. Both residents and businesses should ensure their list of contacts are updated according to the most recent information available, but it's also necessary to be cognizant of the legality of their own addresses.
Canada Post spokesman John Caines explained the organization goes through all of its delivery routes to evaluate whether they are still viable. The postal service indicated restructuring occurs every few years, but the location of several suites in the Greater Victoria area had not been checked for several years, according to the Times Colonist.
Addressees living at the residences and business offices that have been deemed illegal by the local government were advised by Caines to communicate with local officials to fix the situation. Canada Post said it cannot claim responsibility for not delivering to the illegal suites until those living or working at the location have altered the status of their residence. Beyond financial losses that may be incurred by not receiving mail, the lack of an available address can pose a safety risk for residents.
It is important to make use of address verification to ensure that mail recipients can be reached. If a location is categorized as illegal, residents and business owners should rectify the issue to keep lines of communication open.
